4Wood:
Hola padres! We finally had our first Spanish class today!
We started with a short discussion of our summers, focusing on any times when we heard or saw Spanish in our daily activities. Please help your student to notice Spanish being used in public areas, like at the mall, in grocery stores, at museums, at libraries...
Each student then got a Spanish name (which is as close to their name in English as I could find) that they are encouraged (but not required) to use this year in Spanish class.
For the rest of class we learned some simple conversational phrases, like:
¿Cómo te llamas? (Co-mo tay yah-mahs) What are you called?
Me llamo.... (May yah-mo) I am called...
Mucho gusto! (moo-cho goose-toe) Nice to meet you!
Buenos días! (bway-nohs dee-ahs) Good morning!
Buenas tardes! (bway-nahs tar-days) Good afternoon!
Buenas noches! (bway-nahs no-chase) Good evening/good night!
The more you practice with your student, the more likely he or she is to retain the information until next class. Have a great week!
